Open Textbook Collection search box for LibGuides

Hello all, At Wednesday’s meeting, I mentioned that my colleague Jennifer Weldon developed a search box widget for the BCcampus Open Textbook Collection (as seen on Langara’s Open Education site<https://langara.libguides.com/open-education/find-open-resources-by-subject>). It’s essentially a short piece of code, which can embedded in LibGuides and webpages generally for ‘one stop shopping’. Jennifer is happy to share it with whomever is interested. She is planning on including the code in a Word document with instructions for embedding. If you have other suggestions for how to share this, please send them my way! In the meantime, let me know if you’d like the code and I will pass it along. Good morning Librarians! I have a "weird" request - something I am having trouble finding and I am hoping you might be able to give me a hand. In 2008 Obama credits his presidential win to winning the Iowa Caucus. His presidential strategist was key to reminding everyone that getting to the presidency mean winning Iowa. Can anyone find me evidence of this? Details of how they won Iowa as a result of sticking to a single goal? Information request - Faculty stipend for OER implementation

Hello all, I just recently got involved with BCOEL, so I hope that's all right that I'm requesting input already! I'm in the midst of creating an initial proposal to implement some form of OER at my institution as we currently do not use any open resources. I'm looking for some figures for the typical honorarium/stipend given to faculty who choose to adopt or adapt an open textbook to add to my report. If anyone is comfortable sharing the amount that is standard at your own institution or if you've come across good sources (preferably Canadian) that include dollar amounts that you can direct me to, I would be very grateful! We're in a very 'baby steps' stage, but I'm hoping to make a strong case to get started with open textbooks in the next term or two. Hi everyone, Just in case you didn't see this on the ACRL Update, I'm sending it along to all of you: Call for Curriculum Designers/Presenters Open Educational Resources and Affordability RoadShow ACRL is accepting applications from prospective curriculum designers/presenters to create and deliver a new ACRL RoadShow to support librarians in finding, using, and developing open educational resources (OERs). This introductory level, day-long workshop will be intended for academic librarians and library staff integrating OERs into their institutions and developing OER initiatives. The curriculum designers will plan and develop learning experiences for face-to-face and online learning intended to build librarians' knowledge and use of open education practices. The in-person workshops will be offered upon request on a licensed basis, as with the existing ACRL RoadShows<http://ala.informz.net/z/cjUucD9taT04NDQwNTI3JnA9MSZ1PTEwMDc0MzE3OTYmbGk9Nj…>. In-person workshops may also be offered at ALA and/or ACRL Conferences. Additional online offerings on open education would be part of ACRL's regular e-Learning program and could include a multi-week asynchronous course and one or more topical webcasts of 60-90 minutes each in an interactive online classroom. The application deadline is May 1, 2019. A selection committee with representatives from the ACRL New Roles and Changing Landscapes Committee and ACRL staff will consider applications and conduct telephone interviews. Registration Open - Open in Action 2019 Open Education Week is a global celebration of free and open sharing in education. On March 6th, join BCcampus and post-secondary partners at KPU-Richmond for a day of hands-on learning to mark the occasion. Gather with faculty, librarians, instructional designers, educational technologists and other education stakeholders for a program that aims to connect ideas with action. Participants will discuss the theoretical foundations and application of open licenses, how to find and use open education content, and much more.
