Copyright ownership and peer reviews

Hello Librarians, Our open ed team has a question for you about who owns copyright for peer reviews. The reviewer? Or the organization that requests and pays for the review? Thanks, Lauri Lauri Aesoph, Manager, Open Education BC campus | connect.collaborate.innovat e . 250-893-0258 | laesoph(a)bccampus.ca | Skype lauri.aesoph 120-645 Fort Street | Coast & Straits Salish Territory | Victoria, BC | V8W1G2 [ https://mail.bccampus.ca/zimbra/bccampus.ca | BCcampus.ca ] | @BCcampus | #BCcampus Sign up for [ https://bccampus.ca/bccampus-around-the-web/ | BCcampus news ]

Hi Laurie, There is some interesting discussion here: https://publons.com/blog/who-owns-the-review/ It seems that it would be up to the publisher to set the copyright policy (as they do with authors). Reviewers could then choose whether or not to work with that publisher if they disagreed with the policy. In the absence of an explicit policy, the default should be ownership by the reviewer. Hi, I'm in agreement with Kevin. Review work is the intellectual property of the reviewer and should be treated the same way as any other content. I would suggest using a similar licence/policy as other open access material.
