waiting on webinar for access copyright

Hi Friends We have decided to wait a couple of weeks on doing the webinar as we are curious to see how other universities and institutions also react to the case. As well we are aware that there may be implications to your institutions/universities should you speak out about this now, vs. at a later date. I do really want to do this webinar, so will be in touch in a couple of weeks as more information trickles in re: Access and York, etc. Thanks for the understanding Amanda -- Amanda Coolidge Senior Manager, Open Education BC campus | connect.collaborate.innovate. 120- 645 Fort Street | Victoria BC V8W 1G2 Tel 250-818-4592 | [ http://www.bccampus.ca/ | www.bccampus.ca ] Skype: coolidge.amanda Twitter: @acoolidge

It will not be a boring summer on the copyright front, that is certain. One comment I can comfortably make right now is that there is probably going to be a deluge of content provider messaging aimed at faculty that is designed to scare them into using various proprietary products. I heard about the first this morning, which contained the phrase: "Using your institution’s fair dealing guideline is no longer an option." Which implies fair dealing itself is no longer an option? C'mon, guys. Anyway, I could see where immediate uncertainties over copyright issues could lead to misplaced uncertainties about OER. Something to watch for as the York fallout begins. -Martin Martin Warkentin Copyright Librarian University of the Fraser Valley 33844 King Road, Abbotsford, B.C.
