Hi all,

Wow, such great lineups of OA Week events! In addition to the "Open but not Free" event at Harbour Centre, SFU is also hosting a screening of "Paywall: The Business of Scholarship"next week: https://www.lib.sfu.ca/help/publish/scholarly-publishing/open-access/open-access-week  Hope it's not too late to add this one to the calendar as well.

Cheers, Hope

At TRU, we decided to simply do an open house on Monday from 1-4. Were calling it Open Library and using it to talk about library services that support open scholarship and access, including our IRs, OER, research consultations, etc. Were also in the midst of a strat plan, so our consultant is coming for open input. A bit of a stretch, but .... Given the broohaa here (https://vancouversun.com/opinion/columnists/b-c-economist-locked-in-grim-battle-against-deceptive-scholarship) where a faculty member openly accused his colleagues and dean of publishing a lot in predatory journals and has since been banned from campus (not sure exact reason), open access is a bit of a sore spot on campus. We explored doing some sort of panel to discuss OA, but tempers and feelings are high right now. I think it would have been interesting.

I wonder if at one of our in person sessions, we could provide each other with just a snapshot of our own sessions. Or somehow share our training documentation? Brenda maybe you could put this on the agenda for our meeting? Its rare that we can make each others events but they always look so interesting!

Fantastic lineups for next week! I wish I could attend more of them.  Ive attached a poster of BCITs offerings on Wednesday.

And, of course, looking forward to the evening panel at SFU.
