This time, in addition to our Introduction session, we will also be offering an Intermediate 1 session focusing on how to import certain files into Pressbooks and exporting a variety of file types. For faculty and staff who do not have experience using Pressbooks, it is strongly recommended that they take the Introduction webinar before the Intermediate. These two webinars are conveniently scheduled so they can be taken on the same day. Open Education Advocacy and Research Fellowship - for 2018 BCcampus Open Education is taking applications for 2018 Open Education Advocacy and Research Fellowships. Post-secondary faculty in British Columbia are eligible to apply for one of three 1-year positions. Successful candidates will help raise awareness of open educational practices through advocacy and will conduct, present, and publish research on open educational practices at B.C. institutions. For those of you that would like to see what is happening at other institutions, here is a UBC Open snapshot. Here's a few stats as a teaser .... Since 2011, at least 155 UBC courses have been identified as having used open textbooks, OERs, or freely accessible resources instead of traditional textbooks. And if we look across those past six years, 47,423 UBC students were enrolled in those courses using open resources. The estimated cost savings for students has also increased over the past few years. Hello Everyone, We've added two new books and one new ancillary resource, as well as, a few updates. Please see below. Its intent is to recognize the significant role the literature review plays in the research process and to prepare students for the work that goes into writing one. [ https://open.bccampus.ca/find-open-textbooks/?uuid=37d3b486-45ef-4e38-a764-… | The Originals: Classic Readings in Western Philosophy ] This collection of original source readings by philosophers who originated many of the issues we discuss today was written by TRU faculty member Jeff McLaughlin and was produced with funds from a BCcampus Open Education OER Grant. Major areas of philosophy covered are Ethics, Epistemology, Metaphysics, Philosophy of Religion, Ethics, Socio-Political Philosophy, and Aesthetics. [ https://open.bccampus.ca/find-open-textbooks/?uuid=75ab4802-42c4-4fb7-9051-… | Education and Career Planning Open Course ] This unique open course which is the result of a collaboration between seven colleges and BCcampus Open Education, and funded in part by an OER Grant. Authored by Mary Shier and Allison Schubert from College of the Rockies, it is at the provincial ABE level (grade 12 equivalent) and can be used as an elective course towards the BC Adult Grad Diploma. Three file formats are provided (D2L, Moodle, Common Cartridge) so the course can be downloaded into a learning management system. Other news We have added the following new categories to the B.C. Gathering information about zero textbook courses (reply requested by January 15)

I am currently working to build a comprehensive list of courses with zero required textbook costs so that they can be identified for students when the course timetable for each semester goes live (approximately two weeks before course registration begins). For now, the zero textbook cost notation is added manually and requires a bit of coordination behind the scenes. To help expedite this process and fill gaps in this list concerning your courses, I have created a very brief (4 question) data gathering form. If this is relevant to you, I would be grateful if you could complete this form by January 15 (it shouldn't take you more than 3-4 minutes). You can access the webform by clicking on this link: https://goo.gl/forms/YEUQIoUJ0J9PcEF12 I should add that I realize changes may occur in your teaching schedule and selection of course resources between the time you complete this form and the start of your next teaching semester. Given that we do not want to provide students with inaccurate information about courses and sections with zero required textbook costs, I only ask that you make a note to inform me if any of the information you have supplied me with changes (I will also send you a confirmation email before the timetable goes live).
