Hi everyone!

If you're working on an open educational resource and have used AI tools during the creation process, we have a new resource to help you document that use transparently.

What it is:
An AI Declaration Statement template that's built right into our Pressbooks OER template. It provides a clear, structured way to disclose how you used AI—whether for brainstorming, content drafting, editing, creating assessments, generating images, or any other part of your OER development.

Why document AI use?
Transparency helps other faculty who might adopt your resource understand how it was created, addresses copyright and intellectual property considerations, and models good practice for students. The goal isn't to judge how much AI you used—it's simply to communicate openly about your creation process.

How to use it:

  1. Check out the template: https://kpu.pressbooks.pub/booktemplate/front-matter/ai-declaration-statement/
  2. Use the self-assessment rubric [docx] to identify your level of AI use for each category
  3. Fill in the template with your specific details
  4. Include it as a front matter page in your OER

The framework [docx] has been adapted specifically for OER creation (not research), so categories include things like assessment design, accessibility features, and media creation—the actual work you're doing.

Need help?
If you have questions about using the template or want to talk through your AI disclosure, feel free to reach out. I'm happy to provide consultation and support as you work on your OER.

Cheers,

Amanda

I respectfully acknowledge that I work in a region that overlaps with the unceded, traditional and ancestral lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie), scəw̓aθən məsteyəxʷ (Tsawwassen), kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), SEMYOME (Semiahmoo),qiqéyt (Qayqayt), and the qʼʷa:n̓ƛʼən̓ (Kwantlen), which gifted its name to this university.

In the cause of reconciliation, I recognize and commit to address and reduce ongoing systemic colonialism, oppression and racism that Indigenous Peoples continue to experience.
